i’d like for you to meet
christmas card extravaganza.
[you may have met here last year]
you see, i like to handcraft my christmas cards. and since
the process resembles an annual grownup yearbook signing,
i like to make it a one of a kind memory-lane creation.
it’s a rather nostalgic experience to reflect on each name. and each family.
remembering how they have been a personal inspiration throughout years.
now, the tradition was started years ago
with this first ever edition.
i even cut and pasted the actual cards together
with red and green construction paper.
[so juvenile, i know]
and each card had their own button combo.
[you should know that i have a sincere button collection]
but after many all-nighters and hot glue gun burns on my fingertips,
i realized the process didn’t have to be quite so involved.
so throughout the following years,
i hashed out my card making groove.
and it’s been an enjoyed process ever since.
i carry my cardblanks in my purse all around and across this city.
just writing my sentiments whenever i have the chance.
on subways. and in cafes before dinner plans.
before i eat my oatmeal and before i sleep.
i write and remember and write.
and then! i assemble and mail.
and check out this year’s card making soundtrack,
–
every year, the entire process is quite giddy for me.
but i must admit. i have a favorite edition.
it definitely beats the
red&green construction paper days, eh.
–
special thanks to elly & nana in 2009.
they helped me stencil and cut each apple out of the subway map.
who needs elves. when you have
joyful friends to help achieve christmas card dreams.
